With the latest 7.3 update to Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail, we got a slew of new content. Most importantly, though, we received new main story quests for us to progress, something that will lead to the finale of the Alexandria storyline, something a lot of players have been anticipating since they finished the 7.0 release. The quests themselves are pretty much what we’ve come to expect, but there are a couple that will test your deductive skills.

While going through the Preservation Their Purpose main story quest, you might hit a bit of a wall as Square Enix has included a puzzle for you to overcome. Thankfully, we know exactly how to solve it.

Why Gain Access to the Locker?

In the main story, we are trying to get to the Director’s Room, but in order to do that, we need a new key card. The one we were able to gain in the prior room isn’t sufficient to gain access, so we now need to find one in protolab.

Unfortunately for the player, there’s a keycode to the locker that seemingly houses the keycard you are looking for. Because of this, you will need to look through various clues in the environment to figure out what the keycode is. Puzzle solving isn’t something new to Final Fantasy XIV, but the main story generally has a lot more hand-holding in comparison.

What is the Keycode?

In order to solve the keycode, you will first need to talk to all your companions. By talking to Gulool Ja, who is closest to the locker itself, he will find a piece of paper with the results of Experiment 158. This is the first clue you are looking for.

The second clue comes from Wuk Lamat. She will be going over some references to experiments that were conducted. As you might imagine, you need to connect the dots between Gulool Ja and her notes, with Experiment 158 having a maximum value of 15509 recorded.

Keycode: 15509

And there you have it. The keycode requires just a little bit of socializing with your teammates in order to find out. Experiment 158 is of importance, and the game goes out of its way to highlight specific values to lead you in the right direction. With that said, it doesn’t outright tell you what it is, so, for the first time in a long time, we actually have to use a little detective work.
