Whether it’s obtaining a mount at the end of a Savage raid or crafting a minion (yes, this was a popular thing long ago Hevensward and Stormblood days), there are various means of obtaining your favorite pets in Final Fantasy XIV. With the recent release of patch 7.3 for Dawntrail, we received a set that’s the hot item: Yan. Taking the form of a sheep, jump on the back of this cute, yet deadly creature, but where you can get it isn’t immediately made apparent.
Yans are infamous sheep-like creatures that originated from Final Fantasy IX. They were either passive or aggressive enemies you’d run into in specific portions of the world. Through the 7.2 update, we saw the adorably ferocious creatures make a return in AAC Cruiserweight M2 (Savage) during the adds phase.
They became an instant hit among the community, partially because of how cute they were, but more importantly, how hard they hit. Just normal autos from a Yan would require a tank to use cooldowns to survive, and if they got too close to other adds, they would enrage and wipe the entire party in a matter of seconds. Suffice to say, they become a fan favorite.
How to Get the Yan Mount and Minion?
There are exactly two methods of obtaining the Yan Mount and Minion:
Vault Oneiron Treasure Hunting
With the release of patch 7.3, Final Fantasy XIV got the Vault Oneiron, a portal that occasionally opens during treasure hunting with Timeworn Gargantuaskin Maps. If you’re lucky enough to see a portal, you will essentially enter a slot machine mini-game that has you going through waves of enemies and bosses before rewards can be collected.
The Yan Minion and Mount are some of these rewards, more frequently found in the final fifth spin of the mini-game. If you’re able to make it to the final portion of the Vault Oneiron, or if you get very lucky during some of the lesser pulls, there’s a chance either the minion or mount will appear in the loot auction. Once this is done, it all comes down to rolling for the two, praying you roll high and beat everyone else.
It should be noted that the Vault Oneiron can only be accessed in the last part of the Dawntrail storyline (Living Memory), so you will need to complete the main 7.0 campaign to go down this route.
Marketboard

As you can imagine, just like most of the items in treasure hunting, you’ll be able to sell the items you obtain during your adventure. Because of this, a lot of players elect to sell their rewards to other players in hopes of earning millions of gil. And rightfully so, because at the time of writing, the Yan Mount goes from anywhere between 60 and 100 million gil, while the minion is a modest 10 to 30 million.
It’s hard to justify spending more on a mount than on a mansion plot (provided you can find one), but this is a hard to get, very desired set that’s well worth the purchase.
